Gap Chevy Chase

Reid Spencer Predicts Who's in the Chase
Spencer Reid, a sportswriter News NASCAR predicts who will qualify for the Chase for the NASCAR Nextel Cup for the next nine weeks more. It also has predictions about who will not qualify in the top 35 in owner points at the end of the year and why the entire landscape of the effort of the Nextel Cup Toyota will witness dramatic changes for next season.
He first considered the report points provided after Sunday NASCAR Lenox Industrial Tools 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway. With that, he concluded that the top eight drivers in the points – Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin, Matt Kenseth, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Burton, Tony Stewart, Carl Edwards and Kevin Harvick – are going to be in the race when the break comes to Richmond in September.
Series leader Harvick in eighth place is 507 points behind Gordon. Harvick is 248 points ahead of Ryan Newman in 13th, the first position outside of Chase credit. Fourteenth Place Jamie McMurray is 305 behind Harvick and 15th place Kurt Busch leads the 500 winner By Daytona 357.
With these figures, the journalist wrote that it might be possible for one of these three drivers to replace Harvick, but the author ensures that it will not happen.
Nine to 12 positions are occupied by Chevrolet drivers Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr., Clint Bowyer and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Behind Gordon to 628 points lead is Earnhardt. But Earnhardt is 127 ahead of Newman (Dodge), 184 ahead of McMurray (Ford) and 236 to Kurt Busch (Dodge).
Spencer says it is possible for one of four drivers in the 9th to 12th to fall out of the Chase, but again, he predicted it does not occur. He added that pilots currently in the top 12 are still in the top 12 after Richmond, without exception.
He further wrote that the introduction of the Car of Tomorrow (COT) has built a system status in Nextel Cup, those who have an advantage in testing and development of the COT, and those who do not have.
Hendrick Motorsports, Joe Gibbs Racing, Dale Earnhardt Inc. and Richard Childress Racing have their COT programs hitting on all cylinders a view of the team. But for a manufacturer, Chevy is at the forefront in developing the new car.
Getting positions top eight in New Hampshire are the drivers of Chevrolet. Seven of these drivers belong to one of four teams mentioned above, Jeff Green being the exception.
Has also finished in the top 13 at NHIS were 12 pilots currently in the top 13 in the standings, with Bowyer was the only exception, which had hard line with an oil cooler. The journalist wrote that the situation is hardly a coincidence and a little more evidence that the gap will widen between 12th place and those below the threshold.
Spencer added that the teams do well now will continue to do so in order to consolidate their positions in the race. It concludes that the public will not witness a battle for a place where the final rolls around Richmond. He also wrote that the suspense and drama 2006, when Kasey Kahne edged Tony Stewart by 16 points in the race for the 10th and last position before the Chase was raised to 12 pilots did not happen this year.
He added that there will be no suspense about who made the top 35 in owner points, either. According to him, failing to qualify for the Lenox Industrial Tools 300 was a devastating whirlwind 36th Place Scott Riggs Evernham Motorsports team, which fell 182 points behind the No. 70 Haas CNC Chevrolet driven by Johnny Sauter.
Thirty-seventh New owner points pole sitter Dave Blaney Hampshire is 188 back Skip. The Wood Brothers # 21 Ford driver Bill Elliott is 219 points behind Sauter in 38th place. Spencer predicts that these are the only three cars with a remote possibility of dethroning No. 70.
However, the writer estimates that more will not happen, and it is the basic difficulty of Toyota. According to him, Toyota, maker of quality Toyota starter, will start the 2008 season in a more unfavorable it started 2007 – with no teams in the top 35 in owner points.
Being in the top 35 in 2006, Blaney, was thus guaranteed a starting berth in the first five races this year. Dale Jarrett will still provisional six former champions use the year next. These statements are based on many assumptions such as: NASCAR does not alter the rule of past champion, Jarrett still drives a Toyota and Michael Waltrip Racing still exists.
The author states that it is not the kind of progress Toyota will find acceptable in its second season. Pole Blaney at Toyota is the first Cup Series – New Hampshire – has certainly been a lot on a generally barren landscape. But the current situation of Toyota, according to Spencer, provides emergency court automaker Joe Gibbs Racing.
Spencer recommends that Toyota needs a team with Marquee stars that are guaranteed to run. From the point of view of Gibbs, the organization should move from second, third or fourth order stricking Chevy's – depending on how heavily weighing pilot performance, history and feelings – the elite status as the team Toyota's flagship.
